A good performance from first baseman Bob Gustafson helped the New York A1 (GCL) Yankees1 defeat the New York A2 (GCL) Yankees2, 7-4. Gustafson went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks for the Yankees1. The Yankees1, now 15-20, know that wins in August count the same as wins in September.

José Carlos Mendoza had a big 3-run home run for the Yankees1 in the top of the seventh inning. With New York A1 (GCL) leading 4-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 16-year old left-handed pitcher Juan Valdés and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Yankees1 on top, 7-1.

"We took home the win," said Gustafson. "What's not to like?"
