Simons Blasts Rays, Mets Take Game 1, 15-8
With second baseman Shawn Simons leading the charge, the New York N (GCL) Mets got a road win over the Tampa Bay (GCL) Rays, 15-8, in Game 1 of the Round 1. Simons went 3-5 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 4 runs and drove in 4 at Louisville Grounds to help New York N (GCL) take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.

In the top of the first, Simons pounced on a 1-0 fastball from Charlie Zimmerman and hit a 2-run home run. It put New York N (GCL) on top, 2-0.

"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Simons said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
