Pittsburgh (GCL) Breaks Through for First Win in Round 1; Now Trails 2-1
The Pittsburgh (GCL) Pirates got a strong game from starter Jeff Lewis, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.

The Pirates took the 6-5 win over the Boston (GCL) Red Sox in Game 3 of the Round 1 in a 9th inning walk-off today. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Lewis. Lewis threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which allowed the Pirates to narrow their deficit to 1-2 in the best-of-5 series.

In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 5-5, pinch hitter Robby Johnson won it for Pittsburgh (GCL). With the bases empty, Johnson hit a 3-1 changeup from Ed Scott for a solo home run, giving his team the 6-5 win.

"This game had its share of tense moments," Johnson said, postgame.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Saturday, September 9th , 2023.
