Crosscutters Top Cyclones 2-1 to Begin R1

The rookie looked like he belonged out there.
The Williamsport Crosscutters sent 21-year-old left-hander Tony Martínez to the mound today for a high-pressure playoff start and he repaid their confidence, quieting the Brooklyn Cyclones on a day where the Crosscutters struggled to produce runs of their own. In the end, Williamsport cobbled together enough to take the 2-1 decision. The win gave Williamsport a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 Round 1.
In the top of the second, Ed Wheeler made Mike Arnold wince, when Wheeler laid into the Brooklyn pitcher's fastball. The solo home run put the Crosscutters in front, 1-0. In the contest, Wheeler went 2-4 with a home run.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Brooklyn skipper Matt Walbeck, "and it cost us."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
