Royals Rebuff Firebirds, 3-2

The Burlington Royals defeated the Danville Firebirds, 3-2, in Appalachian League action at American Legion Field. Burlington pitcher Stan Spencer had a standout performance. Lou McKee converted his 15th save in 17 tries. Burlington is sailing along at 49-18.
It could have been a different outcome for Burlington, had it not been for Bret Muldoon, the 20-year old catcher . Muldoon contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Burlington up, 3-2.
"Every loss stings," said Danville manager Desmond Jennings. "This one is no exception."
