Starting pitcher Derek West pitched well enough to help the Bluefield Blue Jays beat the Pulaski Yankees, 6-4. West went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 7. His record improves to 5-6. Arturo Acevedo notched his 13th save in 17 chances.
Loren Allen was a key contributor to the win for the Blue Jays. In the bottom of the sixth with no one out, the light-hitting designated hitter stroked a single to center. He went 1-4. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Allen told the Bluefield Observer.
The win gives the Blue Jays a record of 18-42.
