The Bristol Pirates topped the Johnson City Cardinals, 4-3, in Appalachian League action at Devault Memorial Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Bristol pitcher and Greenville, South Carolina, native Sean Thompson. The win boosted Bristol to 24-15.

Emmitt Shiplack, who is tied for 8th in the APP in RBI with 20, aided the Bristol cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman went 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Johnson City manager Paul McAnulty. "But we decided not to take it."
