Mets Capture Close Win
The Kingsport Mets beat the Princeton Rays, 6-5, at Hunter Wright Stadium. Don Spencer, in particular, was impressive. He was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Ken Gibson snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Tim O'Neill suffered the loss. The first-place Mets have a one-game lead in their division.

Kingsport designated hitter Deron Parker said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the sixth. He did more than that -- Parker hit a solo home run to stake Kingsport to a 3-2 lead. His 7th home run of the season came off Princeton pitcher Mike Graves.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Parker.
