The Danville Firebirds beat the Bluefield Blue Jays, 5-1, at Bowen Field. Starting pitcher Artie Hall was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Hall got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. Hall allowed 1 run. Earning his 1st save of the year was Greg Warner.
Danville relied on the hitting of Walt Evans to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Firebirds on top, 3-0. For the game, Evans had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
