Mets Handle Bristol, Snag 5-2 Win
|
Kingsport pitcher Duane Turner had a large part in his team subduing the Bristol Pirates, 5-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Turner, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks. José Jiménez was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save.
The Mets had to work out of trouble in the top of the eighth. The score was 5-2, Kingsport, with one out. Bristol, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Jim Sutton dug in at the plate, but on a full count cutter, he struck out.
The last-place Pirates have lost 5 straight games.
