Black Bears Prevail, 6-4, Over Staten Island
|
The West Virginia Black Bears defeated the Staten Island Yankees, 6-4. Doing his part was third baseman Juan Palácios, who was 2-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was José Pérez. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Jeremiah Wheeler earned save number 6 this season.
It could have been a different outcome for West Virginia, had it not been for Bob Wydeville, the 24-year old center fielder . Wydeville contributed a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put West Virginia up, 6-4.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said West Virginia manager Edwin Moreno.
The Black Bears improve their record to 38-37 with the win over Staten Island.
