Johnson goes 0-3 as Emeralds Squeeze Past Spokane
The Eugene Emeralds got a stellar performance from pitcher Walt Johnson, who handcuffed the Spokane offense en route to a win, 1-0, at Avista Stadium. Johnson yielded no runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-0. The save was credited to Rodrigo Vargas, his 5th.

Mario Guerra had a direct impact on the outcome. Guerra contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Eugene up, 1-0.
