Pat Whittier, who is tied for 10th in the NL in innings pitched with 50.1, was locked in. The right-hander led the New York Mets to a 5-2 win against the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field. Terence McCray locked down his 8th save. The victory makes New York 12-27.

Brandon Nimmo had a big 3-run home run for the Mets in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Severino Gonzalez, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins with 17 in 2017, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 4-0.

"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Nimmo.
