The State College Spikes got a stellar performance from pitcher Clint Hampton, who handcuffed the West Virginia offense en route to a win, 2-0, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Mike Cleveland earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. Sergio Manuel was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 10 save opportunities.

Had Chris Johnson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Johnson hit a 2-run single. That made the score 2-0, in favor of the Spikes.

"Nothing fazes Clint," said State College manager Luis Rúbio.

The Black Bears, now 33-35, have lost 4 straight.
