Cyclones Better Crosscutters, 4-3
|
The Brooklyn Cyclones topped the Williamsport Crosscutters, 4-3, in New York-Penn League action at MCU Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Brooklyn pitcher Bob Morris. Morris, now 5-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 4, and allowing no runs. The third-place Cyclones are now 27-29, the Crosscutters 24-32.
Al Hawkins took Williamsport hurler Mauro Dávila deep in the bottom of the fifth. His 2-run home run put the Cyclones on top, 2-0. In all, Hawkins had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
Hawkins called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
