West Virginia Black Bears starter Jon Porter was in fine form. He led his team to victory over the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 2-0. Alex Samuels picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Nelson Castillo was tagged with the loss. Dan Conner collected his 1st save.

Jimmy Songer, the 22-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Songer contributed a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put West Virginia up, 2-0.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Porter.

The Black Bears raised their record to 27-25.
