Tigers Make It 8 in a Row with 3-2 Win
|
The Connecticut Tigers managed to get by the Auburn Doubledays, 3-2, at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. Connecticut pitcher Junior Taylor set himself apart with his performance. Taylor, now 3-2, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Connecticut has now won 8 straight, while the Doubledays have lost 3 in a row.
Tomás Pineda went 1 for 1 with a double and 3 walks for Connecticut. The 26-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Don Cash. It was his 21st walk of the season.
"It's fun coming to the ballpark," said Pineda, "when you're on this kind of roll."
