Victory Pushes Black Bears Record to 23-18
The West Virginia Black Bears overcame a good performance by Connecticut left fielder Tony Boggs to knock off Connecticut, 12-9, at Russell Diethrick Park. Boggs went 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. West Virginia reliever Kel Franz picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Ned Childers shouldered the loss. Jerry Jones closed the game out for West Virginia, earning his 2nd save.

Rubén Águila came through for West Virginia when he hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 2-1 fastball to left field, staking his team to a 12-9 lead.

"Swingers' gonna swing," said Águila, after the high-scoring affair.

The win for the Black Bears raised their record to 23-18.
