Yankees Get Past Mahoning Valley for 5-4 Win
In a close game at Eastwood Field, the Staten Island Yankees edged the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 5-4. Staten Island second baseman Dan Smith stood apart with his performance. He went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times. Staten Island is now 19-23, Mahoning Valley 21-21.

Staten Island used a timely hit from Tommy Brown to get the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
