Batavia Gets 4-1 Win
|
The Batavia Muckdogs beat the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 4-1, at Ripken Stadium. The Muckdogs got a fine performance from first baseman Lonnie Tyler, who was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Esteve Palmeira earned the save, his 1st. Batavia now owns a record of 9-10.
The Ironbirds had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Muckdogs going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old left fielder Lino Merico came to the plate. Merico hit a run-scoring double on a 2-0 cutter from Aberdeen hurler Waylon Ellis. It was Merico's 2nd double of the year.
Merico called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
