Black Bears Make Doubledays 5-3 Losers
The West Virginia Black Bears defeated the Auburn Doubledays, 5-3, in New York-Penn League action at Falcon Park. West Virginia pitcher Ed Hughes had a standout performance. Pat Gorman earned the save, his 3rd. The Doubledays, now 5-10, continue their inauspicious start.

West Virginia used the bat of Alex Butler to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Black Bears ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"Winning is contagious," said Butler. "We're looking forward to the next game."
