Tri-City turned a good effort from starter Joe Holmes into a win over the Brooklyn Cyclones at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The final score was 5-1. Holmes, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. The ValleyCats, now 8-4, have played some good baseball in the early going.

Dave Wright had a big 2-run double for the ValleyCats in the bottom of the second inning. With Tri-City leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from 33-year old right-handed pitcher Rubén Villanueva and swatted a double to center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the ValleyCats ahead, 3-0.

"Main thing is I want the team to win," Holmes told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
