Auburn catcher Desi Vogel had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-4, to Staten Island at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Vogel was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs. Greg Yarber got the win, improving to 1-1. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. The win gives Staten Island a record of 3-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ánibal Holguín delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 1st and 3rd, the Staten Island catcher hit a run-scoring single, putting the Yankees in front, 6-4.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Holguín, "and then get after it again."
