The Connecticut Tigers got a good effort from starter José Cervantes in defeating the West Virginia Black Bears at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. The final score was 5-0. The winning pitcher was Cervantes, now 1-0. He tossed 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. The win has Connecticut at 2-1.
Jesús Montoya contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run. His at-bat helped Connecticut get the win.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Montoya told the Connecticut Observer.
