The Chicago White Sox could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Mike Kelly into a win. Instead, the Houston Astros prevailed, 4-3. Kelly threw 7.0 innings allowing 4 runs. Picking up the save was Jesús Mejía, his 5th. By defeating Chicago, the last-place Astros improved to 13-20.
The Astros got a big at-bat from second baseman Starlin Castro. For the game, Castro was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Houston a 4-3 lead.
"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager Fredi Gonzalez.
